Story of Helen Burns (from film Jane Eyre)

Helen Burns was a young girl, who grew up in Lowood Charity School. We meet her at the beginning of the film “Jane Eyre”. This young lady makes friends with Jane Eyre, when Jane enters the school and when the strict headmaster Mr. Brocklehurst ordered Jane to stand up on a seat. But when the girls are singing pious songs the headmaster suddenly said, that Jane had to sing together with girls. And this was the first situation, when Helen Burns met Jane.
Girls were sleeping when Helen woke up Jane and gave her bread with cheese. Jane was very glad because she did not eat all the day. After she had a little snack, Jane asked Helen about her name and from this time the girls started being good friends.
Helen’s story continues. She has bigger healthy problems. She still has a cough. In the afternoon Jane was drawing and asked Helen to put her bonnet down. But after some minutes the headmaster came into the room and saw her. This old man was so annoyed that he ordered to cut Helen’s hair. But Jane was sorry for Helen and so she put her bonnet down and let her hair cut down, too.
Helen’s illness became worse. When she was coughing, it hurt her. One winter night health state changed. When Jane woke up Helen was lying in another bed. Jane went downstairs and found her friend lying in another bed. Helen really looked bad and Jane got down beside her. Jane woke up and checked Helen’s body but she was dead in the morning.

To lie or not to lie? – argument

Everyone lies from time to time. Whether in work, school, or even family. Lies help us to take advantage, which we couldn’t take, if we were telling the truth all the time. Sometimes, a little lie is really better than the whole truth. You can’t tell your boss that he is a stupid idiot, just because you think that he is. Instead of that, you tell him the nicest things you can, just to keep him thinking, that you are the one for the job. We lie almost everyday. If a friend wants to go out and you are just lazy to go, you could tell him that you are. But telling him that you are busy with your studies sounds much better and more intelligent. However, too much lying can become hard to handle. If you lie to everyone, everyday, and you tell them things that are simply too unreal, you don’t gain respect, you lose it. Lying is not a good way to make friends. Hypocrisy works only to some extent. You can’t make someone else from you just by saying things you wouldn’t normally say to a best friend, who knows you very well. Then again, a little lie to someone you are just getting to know can help you develop relationship with him/her. All in all, lies make our lives easier. We can get over some problems with no struggle just by telling a lie or two. But lie too much, and you are in trouble. Everyone has to know when to lie, and when not to lie.

Václav – film

Have you already thought about any film which you watch on the television? I have not thought about the film for a long time. But last week I saw the film called Václav which made me thing about some things.
Václav is the outsider who live with his mother in spite of he is 40 years old. He is known as a fool and uncontrollable guy. But you can see him as a sweet guy with a brilliant soul. Other people in the village see him as a problem even his brother František.
Václav goes from one problem into another. And at the end of the drama he is sent to the prison. He was a target of cellmates´s attacks. Happily the request about mercy saved him. The request was conditioned by his brother and neighbors.
This film made me think about the people and their behavior. And at the end I am so lucky that the film had the Czech happy end. People which do not like Václav had changed their minds and helped him from the prison.
